Meet the Artist
Gail Cooksey began her watercolor journey in 2003 after taking a community college watercolor class. After just a few lessons, she was hooked.
“I had dabbled in watercolor periodically in college, but it was really that class and my excellent teacher that convinced me I wanted to pursue watercolor,” she says.
Her “day job” is serving as President and CEO of her own PR agency, Cooksey Communications, located in Dallas/Fort Worth. Now one of the top PR agencies in the DFW Metroplex, Gail pursues her watercolor hobby on weekends and in the evenings.
She enjoys painting all types of landscapes, cityscapes and scenery. “I don’t do people or pets, unless they are very tiny within the painting,” she laughs.
Gail is a member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society in Dallas, and takes classes and workshops whenever possible. She also enjoys learning from books and DVDs, and one of her favorite inspirations is artist Sterling Edwards. “I hope one day to take an actual class from him – I love his loose style and ease with which he paints.”
Gail lives in Colleyville, Texas, with her husband Robert and two dogs, Charlotte and Jacques. She serves on the boards of the SPCA of Texas, the North Texas Commission and the Irving/Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce.
